GST Registration - Online, Process, Eligibility, Documents Required, Penalty for not registering.

 

GST Registration


What is GST Registration ?
  • Under any taxation system, registration is the most fundamental requirement for identification of tax payers ensuring tax compliance.
  • Under GST Regime, without registration, a person can neither collect tax from his customers nor claim any any credit of tax paid by him
  • Every supplier of goods or services or both is required to obtain registration
  • in the state or the union territory from where he makes the taxable supply
  • if his aggregate turnover exceeds rupees 20 lakh in the FY.
However, the limit of rupees 20 lakh will be reduced to rupees 10 lakh if the person is carrying out business in special category state expect Jammu and Kashmir, i.e. limit rupees 10 lakh is applicable for the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Who Should Register for GST?

  • Individuals registered under the Pre-GST law (i.e., Excise, VAT, Service Tax etc.)
  • Businesses with turnover above the threshold limit of Rs. 40 Lakhs* (Rs. 10 Lakhs for North-Eastern States, J&K, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand)
  • Casual taxable person / Non-Resident taxable person
  • Agents of a supplier & Input service distributor
  • Those paying tax under the reverse charge mechanism
  • Person who supplies via e-commerce aggregator
  • Every e-commerce aggregator
  • Person supplying online information and database access or retrieval services from a place outside India to a person in India, other than a registered taxable person

Documents required for GST registration

  • PAN card of the applicant
  • Partnership deed or incorporation certificate
  • PAN cards, voter IDs or Aadhaar cards of promoters and/or partners
  • Address proof of the business by in the form of an electricity bill, rent or lease agreement or for an SEZ, documents issued by the government
  • Bank account statement of the company, firm or individual

How to Register for GST Online?

You can register for GST online through a government portal

Step 1. Go to GST portal
Step 2.  Click on ‘Registration’ under the ‘Services’ tab and then click on ‘New c              registration’.

Part 1.
  1. Select ‘taxpayer’ from the drop-down menu of ‘I am a’
  2. Now, fill form GST REG-01 for your new registration and enter details such as the legal name of your business, state, email address, mobile number and PAN card.
  3. Verify your information by entering the one-time password sent to your mobile number and email ID, and click on ‘Proceed’.
  4. When you complete the process and move to Part B, you will receive a Temporary Reference Number (TRN), after verification. Note down this number.

GST Registration – PART 2
Step 1. To start with part B, login with your TRN and enter the CAPTCHA code. Complete the OTP verification with the OTPs sent to your email id and registered mobile number. You will then be redirected to the GST registration page.

Step 2. Now, submit business details information such as the name of your company, PAN, name of the state you are registering your business in and date of commencement of your business. Here, you have to mention if you have any existing registrations. and then click on "save and continue"


Step 3. Then, submit details of up to 10 promoters or partners of your business. In case of proprietorship firm, you will have to submit the details of the proprietor. You will have to provide personal details, designation, DIN (Director Identification Number), PAN and Aadhaar number. and then click on "CONTINUE"

Step 4. Next, submit the details of the person you have authorised to file GST returns.

Step 5.Add the principal place of business, enter the address, official contact details and nature of possession of premises and then click on "CONTINUE"


Step 6.Add details of any additional places of business, details of goods and services to be supplied, and the bank account details of the company.


Step 7.Upload the required documents based on the type of business you are registering.

Step 9.Now click on ‘Save and continue’. Once you submit the application, you will need to sign it digitally. or you can use EVC / E SIGNATURE

Step 10.Click on ‘Submit’ to save your details.



Step 11.After submission, you will receive an Application Reference Number (ARN) via email or SMS to confirm your registration.
